RJ Mitte, the actor best known for playing Walter White Jr. in Breaking Bad, has died at 34. His representatives confirmed his death on Monday, October 12, 2026, according to NBC News and the BBC. Mitte died in Brownsville, Texas. His representatives said he died by suicide.

For many viewers, Mitte will always be Flynn — the teenage son of Bryan Cranston’s Walter White and Anna Gunn’s Skyler White. As the family around him fractured, his character gave the series a perspective outside Walter’s criminal world. Mitte appeared across all five seasons of the AMC drama, which ran from 2008 to 2013.

Mitte lived with cerebral palsy, as did his character. His performance brought lived experience to one of television’s most recognizable roles involving disability. Beyond the screen, he advocated for disability awareness and inclusion, serving as an ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children’s and as president of The Mitte Foundation, according to his representatives.

Bryan Cranston paid tribute to the actor he first met as a teenager, recalling the joy and enthusiasm Mitte brought to the role and the actor he became during their years together. Cranston also praised his advocacy for performers with disabilities. The loss is being felt by the colleagues and viewers who watched him grow up on screen.

His career extended beyond Breaking Bad, with appearances in Switched at Birth, The Guardians of Justice, The Recall and The Oak Room. In an interview with The Joe Vulpis Podcast, Mitte reflected on working with Cranston and the experience of playing Walter Jr. The conversation below offers a chance to hear him discuss that chapter of his life in his own words.
